The Artist - RAStrieby

My artistic journey began in South Carolina with equine portraits in pencil and paint, but it truly found its heart in 2017 when I discovered my muse: the elegant sighthound (specifically the Borzoi!). Today, I live in Washington with my husband, our child, and our pack of three Borzoi and a Silken Windhound, who are my constant inspiration and most patient models.

With over 30 years of experience in traditional mediums and nearly 20 in digital art, I’ve honed my skills as a multi-medium artist. But I’m, at my core, a forever student—entirely self-taught and driven by a deep curiosity to dive into new crafts. From clay and glass painting to cross-stitch and embroidery, I embrace every opportunity to explore and innovate. This eclectic mix of techniques allows me to bring a unique, versatile perspective to every piece I create.

Where You Can Find My Work

I'm incredibly grateful that my art has found homes and recognition in some wonderful places:

  • Museums & Galleries: My pieces have been featured at the AKC Museum of the Dog in New York City, the Syd Blackmarr Art Museum in Georgia, and Southside Gallery in South Carolina.

  • Community & Cause: Some of my most meaningful projects have been creating the 2021 National Specialty logo for the Borzoi Club of America and designing merchandise to support the Borzoi Health and Welfare Foundation and the Potomac Valley Borzoi Club.

What I Do & How I Work

My creative toolkit is as varied as my interests! I work across a wide range of mediums because each one tells a story in a different way.

My Creative Playground:

  • Digital Art: (Procreate, Adobe, Affinity) for crisp, scalable designs.

  • Traditional Painting: (Oils, Acrylics, Watercolor, Gouache) for texture and depth.

  • Drawing & Illustration: (Ink, Pencil, Colored Pencil) for detail and warmth.

  • Handcrafts: (Clay, Cross-Stitch, Embroidery) for a tangible, tactile connection.

The Business of Art:
Running my own art business since 2005 has taught me how to be not just a creator, but a reliable partner. I handle the details (like building my own website, using SEO to connect with people, and managing my online shop) so I can focus on what I love: delivering art that truly resonates. I've also enjoyed leading fundraising efforts and contributing to committees for the Potomac Valley Borzoi Club, using my skills to help communities I care about.

My Approach

My art is a celebration of curiosity, versatility, and endless possibilities. I'm a thinker and a maker at heart, and I thrive on diving deep into a project, nurturing it from a small seed into something full of life and meaning. I love the focus of working independently and cherish the collaborative spirit of working closely with clients and small teams to make something wonderful together.

I'm always open to new connections and creative challenges. If you have a project in mind, a question about my process, or just want to talk art and dogs, I'd love to hear from you!
